NEW DELHI: Australian all-rounder Cameron Green emerged as the biggest attraction at the IPL auction underway at the Etihad Arena, with Kolkata Knight Riders snapping him up for a staggering Rs 25.20 crore. The buy made Green the most expensive overseas player in the history of the tournament.Once the bidding crossed the Rs 25 crore mark, Green surpassed the previous overseas record held by his Australia teammate Mitchell Starc, who was bought by KKR for Rs 24.75 crore at the IPL 2024 auction. Overall, Green now stands as the third costliest player in IPL auction history, behind Rishabh Pant, who fetched Rs 27 crore from Lucknow Super Giants at the IPL 2025 mega auction, and Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer, who went for Rs 26.75 crore in the same auction.

Green entered the auction at his base price of Rs 2 crore, triggering an early bidding war between KKR and Rajasthan Royals, before the Royals exited when the price touched Rs 13 crore. Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings then joined the fray, setting up a high-stakes duel between the two franchises with the deepest purses — KKR with Rs 64.30 crore and CSK with Rs 43.40 crore. After intense deliberations on both sides, Green became the first player of the evening to breach the Rs 20 crore barrier, with KKR eventually sealing the deal at Rs 25.20 crore. However, under the revised IPL regulations, overseas players are capped at a maximum salary of Rs 18 crore. As a result, Green will receive Rs 18 crore, with the remaining Rs 7.20 crore being allocated to player welfare.Green last featured in the IPL in 2024, representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He scored 255 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 143.25 and claimed 10 wickets in 13 matches at an economy rate of 8.61. The all-rounder has previously also turned out for Mumbai Indians before being traded.
