ISIS module case: NIA conducts searches at 25 locations in Tamil Nadu, four in Hyderabad

COIMBATORE: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) sleuths on Saturday morning started searches in 22 places in Coimbatore, three places in Chennai and four places in Hyderabad.
The searches are being conducted in a case related to an ISIS module.
Jamesha Mubeen, an ISIS follower who drove a car with an improvised explosive device, died in an explosion in front of the Kottai Sangameshwarar Temple in Eswaran Kovil Street at Ukkadam in Coimbatore on October 23, 2022. Investigations revealed that he was studying in Kovai Arabic College at Kuniyamuthur in Coimbatore. More than 25 others were studying with Mubeen in the college a few years ago.
Sources said that NIA officials from Chennai carried out a search at the Arabic college in Coimbatore last month.
The agency collected documents and registered a new FIR in connection with the Tamil Nadu ISIS module and its recruitment and radicalisation.
Following the FIR, the NIA started searches in 22 places at Karumbukkadai, GM Nagar, Kinathukadavu, Kavundampalayam, Ukkadam and a few more areas in Coimbatore city around 6am on Saturday.
They also started searches at Neelankarai, Ayanavaram and Thiru Vi Ka Nagar in Chennai.
“A team of NIA officials are conducting searches in the residence of Coimbatore Corporation 82nd ward councillor (DMK) M Mubaseera in Perumal Kovil Street in Coimbatore city. The DMK councillor’s husband was studying in the Arabic college,” said a source.
