NEW DELHI: Two cash collection agents of a private firm, who were carrying around Rs 50 lakh, were robbed in central Delhi after two men posing as traffic policemen stopped them for checking. While the imposters asked the employees to open the car’s boot, two others came and fled with the bag containing cash.
The police received a complaint around 5pm on Wednesday that two employees of a private firm, after collecting payment from Kucha Ghasi Ram, were on way to their Shivaji Marg office when they were intercepted by two men on a motorcycle.
“The two men in traffic police uniform with wireless sets in their hands intercepted the car near Salimgarh flyover at Outer Ring road on the pretext of checking. The suspects then asked the agents to open the dickey of their SUV. As the boot opened two other persons came on a motorcycle and took the bag containing Rs50 lakh which they had collected from different shops,” said a senior police official.
Investigating officials revealed that the accused men did not show any weapon and told the victims that checking was going on which is why they stopped the vehicle. As the victims sat in the car and opened the boot, the accused fled with the cash.
A case under section 419 (Punishment for cheating by personation), 382 (Theft after preparation) was registered at IP estate police station.
