Gurugram: Woman, man arrested for blackmailing men over false rape cases
The arrest was made in connection with allegations of threatening to disclose a woman’s private photos, which subsequently prompted her to attempt suicide, as confirmed by a police officer.
The suspect, identified as Parul Kumar and originally from Peepal Khera village in Muzaffarnagar, was taken into custody in his hometown on Monday night.
The police have stated that the accused stands accused of blackmail and extortion, involving a sum of Rs 5 lakh, from a woman.
This ordeal led to the woman’s attempted suicide, though she survived the incident.
In his home state, Kumar is facing accusations in 10 different cases, with charges ranging from attempted murder and kidnapping to blackmailing, PTI quoted law enforcement officials as saying.
At the time of his arrest, law enforcement authorities recovered one pistol, a knife, and two cartridges from Kumar’s possession.
On September 15, the police were alerted to an incident of attempted suicide involving a woman, who was promptly transported to a hospital for medical attention.
On September 22, the woman’s husband filed a formal complaint against an individual residing in the vicinity of his wife’s maternal home in Khatauli, Uttar Pradesh.
He expressed that this individual frequently visits their residence in Shyam Kunj and subjects his wife to harassment.
According to the husband, this individual would arrive at their home armed with weapons and issue threats to harm his children and entire family.
Additionally, he would threaten to publicly release his wife’s photos if they did not provide him with money.
The husband had said in his complaint, according to police, “My wife gave him the money but he kept demanding more and kept molesting my wife. Harassed by this, my wife tried to commit suicide.”
An FIR was officially registered at Bhondsi police station regarding this incident, and a subsequent investigation was initiated.
This investigation ultimately resulted in the arrest of Kumar by a team from Maruti Kunj police chowki.
The accused resorted to threats of making the victim’s photo public to compel her into communication.
He coerced money from her by using the threat of publicizing the photo and even harming her children and family, and then persistently demanded additional funds.
Badshahpur assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Priyanshu Dewan stated, “The accused has a prior criminal record in Uttar Pradesh, and we are currently interrogating him.”
