GHAZIABAD: The head warder of Ghaziabad‘s Dasna Jail took his own life by leaping in front of a goods train at a railway crossing near the prison.
The warder, identified as 42-year-old Sanjiv Kumar, hailed from Douki in Fatehabad, Agra district. The incident occurred on Sunday, and Kumar had been part of the UP jail service since 1995. He was recently posted at Dasna Jail on July 5 following a transfer from Bareilly.
Kumar’s family, residing in Patel Nagar, is now faced with this heartbreaking loss. According to Naresh Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) in Masuri, upon receiving news of Kumar’s death, the Masuri Police initiated an investigation. They interviewed the railway crossing gateman, who reported that the warder was walking near the railway track.
Kumar’s family, who arrived at the mortuary, revealed that he had been battling depression. However, no suicide note was discovered at the scene.
The Superintendent of Dasna Jail, Alok Kumar Singh, confirmed that Kumar’s body has been released for cremation.
