Garba for 600 special children in Andheri on Sunday | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: As the nine-day festival of Ashwin Navratri will be celebrated from Sunday October 15 through Monday October 23, certain individuals and organisations are bringing joy, inclusivity and a sense of celebration to children who often face unique challenges.
Lions Club of Juhu, in its 65th year, will organise a Navratri programme, ‘Dholida with Special Kids’ Sunday October 15 at CD Barfiwala School at DN Nagar, Andheri, from 5.00-7.00 pm.
This event is designed for specially abled children and older students, including those who are visually, mentally, hearing, and physically challenged. Around 600 students will participate in a Raas Garba performed by live singers and musicians.
The children hail from various institutes across Mumbai including Dilkhush, Sadaphooli, TEACH, KDN Shruti, Sadhana Vidyalaya, Pragati, Rochiram Thadani and Vipla Foundation among several others.
Lion Biren Katwala, president of the Lions Club of Juhu, said, “Inclusion transforms the path of specially abled children. They are just like any of us, exhibiting their unique form of normalcy.”
Chairpersons Lion Devangi and Lion Parag Dalal have played a major part in organising the programme. Devangi, an audiologist and speech therapist, said, “We are honoured to be part of ‘Dholida with Special Kids’ for it resonates with our passion for helping the specially-abled community. This Navratri event is not only about celebrating a festival but also about celebrating their resilience and spirit. I hope it exemplifies inclusivity and love that extends beyond the Navratri season.”
The show is supported by members of the Lions Club of Juhu, donors and corporates. An entry fee of Rs 1,200 is applicable to guests.
