Kolkata: After a 52-year-old man, Bhaskar Mukherjee, hanged himself to death at Kalyanpur in Ausgram on Wednesday, police said the man’s family alleged that Mukherjee had taken his own life distressed over SIR (Special Intensive Revision) related issues, reports Mohammad Asif.East Burdwan SP Sayak Das said the family members verbally informed police that Mukherjee was distressed over SIR-related problems and that the family has said it will lodge a formal complaint after completing Mukherjee’s final rites. According to the family, Bhaskar Mukherjee’s voter ID card incorrectly mentioned his father’s name as Subimal Mukherjee instead of Panchanan Mukherjee, and that despite multiple attempts, he could not manage to get the name corrected.The family said that even though Mukherjee’s name appeared in the draft roll after SIR, he was worried about how he would explain the discrepancy if he was called for a hearing. Police have registered an unnatural death case and have sent the body for postmortem.
