Elephant tramples farmer to death in Tamil Nadu | Chennai News



ERODE: A wild elephant trampled a farmer to death in Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve (STR) in Erode district of Tamil Nadu on Friday morning.
The deceased has been identified as M Ramasamy, 63, of Attamokkai area in Puthu Vadavalli.
Sathyamangalam forest range officer (FRO) K R Palanisamy said the farmer owned 1.5 acres of land. He used to stay in a room on his farm at night to guard the crops.
On Thursday night, he went to the room after dinner. Around 1am, a lone elephant came there for crop raiding.
“The elephant trampled Ramasamy when he attempted to chase it away,” the FRO said.
The FRO issued a solatium of Rs 50,000 to the deceased man’s family. “Further compensation will be given at the earliest,” he added.
A case was registered.
