Dombivli: Miraculous escape for 20 as Dombivli bldg crashes | Thane News



KALYAN: It was a lucky escape for more than 20 members of six families residing in the ground-plus-two-storey building in Dombivli when a portion of it collapsed just a few minutes after a flour mill owner noticed cracks and alerted residents who vacated building in the nick of time on Tuesday. This is second incident of building collapse within a month in Dombivli, raising questions about the status of dangerous buildings in the twin cities of Kalyan and Dombivli.
Last month, two people died and one was injured after a portion of the ground-plus-three-storey Adinarayan Krupa building collapsed in Dombivli. Tuesday’s incident took place in Laxman Pawshe Niwas building in Kopar area in Dombivli (East) at around 5pm. The building which is around 30 years’ old has nine house but only six families were residing in building due to its dangerous condition. The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation officials who inspected the spot were checking if the building was in the list of dangerous structures, Sneha Karpe, assistant municipal commissioner, said. While some of the affected families have been shifted to the community halll, others have gone to their relatvies’ homes.
