Dengue Fever: 358 fresh cases reported in BMC areas last week

KOLKATA: The surge in dengue cases in the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) areas of Salt Lake and Rajarhat-Gopalpur continued with 358 new infections reported in the last one week. From January, the 1,391 people have been affected in the BMC areas so far this year.
According to civic officials, around eight to 10 cases are being reported from each ward everyday on an average. In the last one week, most cases have been reported from wards 5, 6, 12, 26 and 27 in Rajarhat-Gopalpur and in wards 30, 31 and 41 in Salt Lake Sector 1. “These specific wards have reported around 15 to 16 cases on an average. However, no dengue death has been reported in the BMC area so far this year,” said a BMC official.
The present dengue surge replicates last year’s trend when a spike had started from the first week of September. From September 9 to September 15 in 2022, 245 cases were reported. Over 350 cases have been reported during the same week this year. Dengue cases reached its peak in the third week of October last year when 464 cases were reported.
