New Delhi: A 36-year-old man who jumped parole four years ago was arrested on Monday by Delhi Police’s Crime Branch. The man, identified as Rohit Balara from Neb Sarai, was convicted in 2019 for sexually assaulting an eight-year-old boy in 2012 and was sentenced to three and a half years in prison. He was granted emergency parole for 90 days in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, but failed to surrender afterward and absconded. “After multiple raids across Delhi-NCR, officers traced him to his hideout in Neb Sarai and kept him under surveillance,” said DCP (crime) Harsh Indora. He was arrested near IGNOU Road in south Delhi. Police said he initially fled to his native village. He later cut off contact with acquaintances, switched off his phone and frequently changed locations to avoid arrest.
