Delhi: Centre mulls more parking space around Kartavya Path | Delhi News

NEW DELHI: The government is looking to create more dedicated parking space around Kartavya Path and the upcoming Common Central Secretariat (CCS) buildings to meet the requirement of visitors and office goers.
TOI has learnt that the necessity for this was felt primarily because creating huge parking spaces in basements of upcoming CCS buildings is taking more time and impacting the timelines of these projects. Sources said the construction period could come down by up to six months if the government did away with creating “double basements” for parking in the CCS buildings.
In the case of the under-construction CCS building on the plot where IGNCA was located, the creation of double basements has pushed the timeline by six months, sources said. They added that the housing and urban affairs ministry is looking at options such as building multi-level parking in the area.
Currently, at least one lane each of Rajendra Prasad Road and Maulana Azad Road, along which the main government buildings are located, are blocked by parked vehicles as these office complexes lack adequate parking space. None of these buildings have basement parking.
“There is huge demand for parking even on weekends when a large number of people visit Kartavya Path. We need to find a solution to the growing parking problem in this entire area. We are looking at different options,” an official said.
