Kolkata: The initial post-mortem report of Sikha Mukherjee (70) found dead in a decomposed condition inside a locked room at her residence at Madan Dutta Lane in Bowbazar, shows that death was possibly due to an injury that she received on her head. The cops, thus, are likely to initiate a case under the murder section.
Police said they are looking into the role of the son, Abhishek Mukherjee (39) who suffers from severe mental illness. “Local inputs suggest he had assaulted his mother on earlier occasions. Some neighbours have said he did not let her have her meals. However, it is extremely difficult to verify the claims. That the neighbours suspected something amiss as soon as they failed to spot the victim for a couple of days though has been taken note by us,” said a Lalbazar source.
“We are investigating all angles and we are heavily dependent on the doctors treating him to ascertain what transpired a few nights ago. We also need a full report on his mental health to ascertain if he can even be considered a suspect in this case. We are recording a few statements from those who had access to the house and we can take a decision only after getting the full post-mortem report,” said an officer.
