Contractor: Sr Govt Clerk Held For Taking 5k Bribe From Man Seeking To Be Registered As Contractor |



Thane: The Thane ACB has arrested a senior clerk of Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a man for registering him as a contractor with the government body.
The accused has been identified as Sripat Khade (52) who is attached to the office of MJP in Thane, informed an ACB official.
The complainant had approached the accused and had asked him to register him as a contractor with the MJP under a specific scheme for unemployed people recently. However, Khade reportedly asked him for a bribe of Rs 5,000 to get him registered.
Thereafter, the complainant approached the ACB unit of Thane. The ACB sleuths laid a trap. As the complainant pulled out the wad of currency notes, and the accused pocketed it, the ACB sleuths in waiting trapped him.
A case was registered at Naupada police station.
The MJP provides technical sanctions and implements water supply and sewerage projects mostly in rural areas, said an ACB official.

The accused had demanded a total bribe of Rs 1,20,000, out of which they had already taken Rs 40,000. The main accused, Jai Singh, is currently out of town and will be interrogated upon his return. The ACB has registered a case and detained the two brokers for further investigation.
