NEW DELHI: A meeting of New Delhi Municipal Council was adjourned on Wednesday without many proposals being approved as chief minister Arvind Kejriwal left abruptly.
Kejriwal was questioned by BJP members about what they claimed was no effective action being taken to control air pollution in the national capital and increasing stubble burning in Punjab. No comment was received from Delhi government on this matter.
In a press conference held after the meeting, NDMC vice chairman Satish Upadhyay said, “the CM’s attitude of leaving the meeting abruptly not only affects the progress on the NDMC’s development works but also delays discussion and approval of issues pertaining to the employees benefits”.
“We keenly look forward for the meeting held only once in a month. On Wednesday, when the CM was questioned about the measures taken to reduce air pollution, increasing number of dengue and malaria cases, he simply adjourned the meeting for a month and left. AAP in MCD is not even releasing with weekly report of vector-borne disease. Even in G20 summit, CM did nothing to supervise work and do coordination meetings,” alleged NDMC member Kuljeet Chahal.
Chahal added that Commission for Air Quality Management report in NCR and adjoining areas stated that 561 cases of stubble burning reported in AAP-ruled Punjab which is five times higher than the cases reported in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
During the meeting, Upadhyay proposed the establishment of a committee to investigate the reasons for recurring cancellation and retendering of tenders and implement corrective measures within the department concerned.
“It has been observed that tenders for allotment of parking lots, handling over maintenance for PTUs, revamp of Shivaji Stadium and many other projects could not receive bids or succeed for various reasons. In fact, there are cases where multiple tenders were called for projects and no success achieved. This is resulting in waste of time and funds. We have suggested the formation of a committee to understand the financial and technical glitches and mitigate them in a time-bound manner,” said Upadhyay.
Members argued that while a decision on the implementation of 7th Pay Commission had been made in the previous Council meeting, employees are yet to receive their entitled benefits due to some technical process. “It was suggested that advances should be calculated and disbursed to employees on the eve of Diwali,” added Upadhyay.
