RANIPET: A 22-year-old man from Chennai was charred to death when his two-wheeler caught fire after a speeding tipper truck hit him from behind and trapped him with his bike under the heavy vehicle near Kaveripakkam in Ranipet district. The accident happened on the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway.
The deceased has been identified as R Manu Kashyap from Mambakkam, Chennai, a designer in a private firm in Bengaluru.
Police said Kashyap reached Chennai a week ago for his elder brother’s marriage. He left for Bengaluru from Chennai on his two-wheeler on Tuesday morning. The accident happened after he crossed Kaveripakkam. The two-wheeler that was trapped under the tipper truck caught fire. The fire soon spread to the front portion of the truck. The youth was charred to death on the spot.
The truck driver escaped after the accident. A fire tender from Ranipet fire station rushed to the spot to put out the fire. A team from the Kaveripakkam police station reached the spot and recovered the charred body and sent it for postmortem.
The police registered a case and launched a hunt for the truck driver.
