Chennai man arrested for cheating Sudanese businessman | Chennai News



CHENNAI: A Chennai-based businessman was arrested on Monday for cheating a Sudanese businessman of Rs 54 lakh by promising to send white rice.
According to police, Sahul Hameed, who runs Starwings General Trading LLC in Sudan, approached Mohammad Zaheer Hussain Bahadur, who runs Ayesha Exports in Thousand Lights, for 502 metric tonne of white rice.
As per the deal, Hameed transferred Rs 54,99,300 to Bahadur, 33. However, Bahadur failed to comply with the promise. He threatened Hameed with dire consequences when the latter demanded his money.
Following this, Hameed filed a complaint with Chennai city police commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore. The petition was forwarded to the entrustment document fraud wing unit – 1. A police team led by inspector Menaka found that Bahadur had cheated Hameed.
The police team nabbed Bahadur from a hideout in Thoraipakkam. He was remanded in jail.
The police seized a car, a laptop and 11 mobile phones from him.
