THANE: Ongoing metro and infrastructure projects along the highways have resulted in heavy traffic congestion, significantly impacting the schedules of public transport buses in Thane city. As a consequence, bus operators have been forced to either cancel or shorten routes, causing inconvenience to thousands of passengers.
Commuters traveling to and from the city to areas like Borivali, Bhiwandi, and Ghodbunder Road have reported frequent disruptions in bus services.Buses are either running behind schedule, getting canceled, or being short-terminated due to the congestion on the highways.
Commuters have expressed their frustrations, citing increased waiting times of 15 to 30 minutes or more, particularly during peak hours on routes toward Ghodbunder road and Borivali. To cope with the traffic congestion, some buses are even skipping busy junctions and taking flyovers to save time.
Officials from various public bus transport agencies, including the Thane municipal transport (TMT), MSRTC, NMMT, MBMT, and BEST, acknowledged the challenges they face. They revealed that they’ve had to cancel a few services or terminate routes prematurely to prevent disruptions to the overall bus schedule. This decision aims to ensure that commuters can board the next available bus, which frequently plies on these routes for extended travel. However, passengers have been left inconvenienced by these route adjustments.
