Bus marshals mount protest outside Delhi secretariat over salary | Delhi News



NEW DELHI: Bus marshals deployed on cluster and DTC buses in Delhi went on strike and held a protest outside the Delhi Secretariat due to non-payment of their salaries. The demonstrators demanded their dues and stated that their protest would be continuous until their grievances were addressed.
Kiran Devi, a bus marshal receiving treatment for throat cancer, emphasized the financial strain they face due to unpaid salaries, which has made it challenging to afford essential medicines and support their families.
Several others shared stories of hardship, underscoring how the delay in payments has affected their ability to pay for their children’s education and their parents’ medical expenses.
Sachin, a bus marshal since 2015, mentioned that this was their fourth protest, and despite submitting memorandums and appeals, their concerns have not been heard.
Bus marshals do not receive medical benefits, raising concerns about their well-being. Some marshals expressed skepticism about the government’s promises, suggesting that they were being misled.
JP Pandey, another bus marshal, highlighted their daily wage of Rs 844 without additional benefits or bonuses, labeling it as exploitation.
