BMC: 1 carriageway of Gokhale bridge to open in Feb now | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: The BMC has pushed the deadline for opening one carriageway of Andheri’s Gokhale bridge from November to February 15.
The announcement came after Wednesday’s joint meeting of BMC chief I S Chahal, Western Railway general manager Ashok Kumar Mishra, local MLA Ameet Satam and civic, railway and Rail India Technical and Economic Service officials for planning the launch of girders.Chahal sought additional blocks from WR to launch the girders.
Dhaval Shah, founder of Lokhandwala Oshiwara Citizens’ Association, expressed disappointment with the “yet another deadline extension”. “The first deadline was May… BMC should have been honest about the timeline right from the start,” he said. “Besides the bad air quality due to the construction work, locals and motorists are frustrated with the constant delays. February is an exam season, so they should finish the bridge by then so that students can reach centres in time.”
Activist Zoru Bhathena claimed that the “story that Gokhale bridge” had to be rebuilt was a lie. VJTI and IIT never said that the bridge was dilapidated, he added.
