Behind the scenes at Delhi’s grand Ramlila | Delhi News


Like every year, many popular actors are performing in one of Delhi’s oldest Ramlilas. Before they kicked off the 10-day-long hectic schedule of daily performances, we caught up some of them for off-stage chit-chat
“Once I am in the attire of Ram, there is a sense of responsibility. I am really happy playing the role of Ram again. I have been brought up in Kirti Nagar, I remember how we used to make Ravan in our lane and I used to play the role of Ram in our colony Ramlila even then. Those were really good days,” says Gagan Malik, who in playing Ram at LavKush Ramlila this year as well.

“Mujhe bahut achha lag raha hai. It is the first time I am playing a role in Ramlila, that too of Sita. I really hope that children come in large numbers,” says Kavita Joshi, who is portraying Sita.

“Playing Ravan at LavKush Ramlila is a different experience for me. There are no re-takes, so I have been learning my lines diligently (laughs). The challenge is to recreate and retain the style of storytelling of Ramlila that has been a part of our tradition for years,” says Mukesh Rishi, who is playing Ravan.

“I am from Delhi and it is a very nice feeling to be a part of one of Delhi’s oldest Ramlilas. As a kid, I used to go to watch Ramlila with my family. Perform karne mein toh alag hi maza hai,” says Dishank Arora, who is playing Lakshman.
“From ads, films to web series, as an actor I have worked in all mediums, but there’s a lot of satisfaction in being a part of Ramlila. Delhi audience ke liye perform karke zabardast lagta hai,” says Mohit Tyagi, who is essaying the role of Vibhishan.

“Delhi audience always gives a lot of love. This is the second time I am performing on stage. It is a very different experience for me to perform in front of a live audience. The most thrilling part is the flying scene with Ram and Lakshman on my shoulders, at a height of 30ft,” shares Nirbhay Wadhwa, who is essaying
the role of Hanuman
