MUMBAI: A man from Bangladesh was caught when he landed at the Mumbai International Airport from Bangkok on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Jiku Bablu Das (30), was caught on his arrival in Mumbai when his Indian passport was put in the system by the immigration officials.
It was learned that a look-out circular (LOC) had been issued against him by the Goa Police after learning that he had traveled illegally to Bangladesh in 2019 while staying in Goa.
Sahar police said Das worked as a waiter in Goa with a fake name as Joy Chaudhary which he used to get a passport from Panjim using fake documents.
The Sahar police said during the probe by the Goa police they learned that Das is involved in arranging passports for Bangladeshi nationals who enter India illegally.
Based on the probe details, the Goa police issued an LOC against him.
The LOC remark read: “Suspected to be a Bangladeshi National. Subject supposedly traveled to Bangladesh Illegal in 2019. His Social Media Account on Face (Profile) is with Profile Name – Jiku Das. Showing native place as Chittagong Bangladesh. Around 25 photographs of Aadhaar Cards were found in his mobile phone issued with addresses from states like Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand etc. He is likely to be helping another Bangladeshi National in obtaining fraudulent Indian Passports with the help of one Morjim. Question above points to checking personal belongings or mobile phones to ascertain actual identity. Suitable legal action along with seized Indian Identity documents to be imitated if anything adverse is found, detailed interception report to be sent to the originator.”
Das was caught when he arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday morning.
In the complaint, the immigration officials said: “Das got the Indian passport in 2022 from Panjim. He worked as a waiter in Goa for the last few years and even visited Bangladesh in 2019. He managed to clear the immigration check on October 3 while flying to Bangkok from Mumbai. However, he did not realize that an LOC would be issued against him and when he flew back on October 16, he was stopped after the system alerted when his passport was scanned on arrival.”
Das has been booked under the Indian Penal Code sections for impersonation, cheating, forgery and under the Indian Passport Act and Foreigners Act.
