Earlier this month, Narwekar had decided to consolidate the 34 petitions in the disqualification case into six groups based on their cause of action.
MLAs seeking more time to reply must provide justification: Maha Assembly Speaker
Out of the six groups, four contain petitions filed by the Sena (UBT), while the remaining two groups house petitions submitted by the Eknath Shinde-led Sena.Narwekar had also instructed the Shinde-led Sena to provide him with the same information that both factions had submitted to the Supreme Court (SC) by October 25.
Officials from the legislature have explained that petitions with a common cause of action have been grouped together and will be addressed collectively. This approach is anticipated to streamline the proceedings and expedite the resolution of the matter. One of these groups encompasses petitions related to the actions of three independent MLAs.
A hearing on a set of petitions related to non-attendance at a party meeting is expected to take place on Thursday.
In response to a directive from the Supreme Court, Narwekar is preparing to submit a revised schedule to the SC. The revised schedule will indicate the speaker’s intention to conclude the disqualification proceedings by February 2024.
Narwekar intends to discuss this matter with advocate general (AG) Birendra Saraf in Mumbai before traveling to New Delhi to consult with solicitor general (SG) Tushar Mehta. The revised schedule is slated for submission to the Supreme Court on October 30.
