A TRIBUTE TO INDIAN CINEMA
Starting his address in Hindi, German Ambassador Philipp Ackermann shared that there was “a bit of an Indian movie night” in store for the guests. “We had half of our cabinet coming to Delhi for G20 and bilateral visits… Many of you might remember that last March, we indeed did something very unusual,” the ambassador said, referring to the viral Naatu Naatu flash mob that he and the embassy staff took part in. “I have to be honest and very German with you. When my team came up with this idea, I was very sceptical because dancing in Chandni Chowk is not exactly what a diplomatic activity is considered to be. But in hindsight, I am glad that the team pushed me because we had a lot of fun recording this video.”
In my wildest dream, I never expected that it (Naatu Naatu) will win an Oscar. All I was expecting was for it to become a hit, that’s it. It is a boost to Indian cinema and I think this is just the beginning of a great era

This is an auspicious day of East and West Germany coming together on this very day 33 years ago. The euphoria you guys have created was bigger than the Oscars, I felt
