8,198 idols immersed on Day 5 of Ganpati festival in Mumbai | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: On the fifth day of the Ganpati festival in Mumbai, a total of 8,198 idols were immersed in beaches and artificial ponds, according to an official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
This included 61 ‘Sarvjanik’ Ganeshas, 7,398 household idols, and 739 Gauri idols. The immersions took place at designated beaches and artificial ponds organized by the civic body until 6pm, and fortunately, no untoward incidents were reported.
Of the total, 3,448 idols were immersed in artificial ponds located in various parts of the city.
According to the police, the day saw the immersion of 402 ‘Sarvjanik’ Ganeshas, 26,870 household idols, and 5,694 Gauri idols. To manage the situation effectively, a significant deployment of security personnel was made, including 2,094 police officials, 11,083 constables, 32 platoons of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), quick response teams (QRT), rapid action forces, and home guards.
The immersion process mainly occurred at popular locations such as Girgaon, Dadar, Juhu, Marve, and Aqsa beaches, as well as 73 water bodies. Additionally, 191 artificial ponds were set up to facilitate the visarjan (immersion) process.
