THANE: As many as five new check dams will be constructed along with repairing an existing one on the Yeoor natural nullah to tap rain water and divert it to Thane households, Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik said Wednesday.
It is learnt that rain water conservation of this magnitude is one of its kind to be implemented within any city in the metropolitan region.
The dams will retain several million litres of water gushing down the forest into the creek during monsoon and will be enough to supply nearly four million litres of water daily to the neighbouring areas of Yeoor and Ghodbunder road. The wildlife in SGNP will get adequate water within the forest area, said officials. “The tendering process for the Rs 2.7 crore worth of projects has begun and we expect the dams to be completed in the next six months,” said Sarnaik. —
