NEW DELHI: A 42-year-old woman and her four associates have been arrested in connection with the robbery of 17 gold biscuits in the Paschim Vihar area of west Delhi.
The accused have been identified as Sonu Suri, a resident of Tagore Garden Extension, Navneet (34), Mohsin Khan (29), Dheeraj (22), and Ankit Porwal (22), all residents of Khayala.
The incident occurred on September 22 when a PCR call was received about a robbery near Udyog Nagar Metro Station around 2.45pm. The victim was on his way to deliver a bag containing gold, belonging to his employer, to someone in Chandni Chowk on his scooter when two individuals on a bike intercepted him, snatched his bag, and fled towards Peeragarhi.
During the investigation, the police reviewed CCTV footage along the route and identified two suspects on a bike who had been following the complainant outside his workshop. The complainant left his workshop around 2.15pm for Chandni Chowk to deliver the bag, and the two individuals started chasing him. They were in communication with someone via mobile phone, indicating that they were passing information.
When they reached Rohtak Road, another bike joined them, and the bag was snatched by the riders on the second bike. The investigation led to the discovery that two of the accused had fled to Jalandhar in Punjab. A police team apprehended both suspects, identified as Dheeraj and Ankit.
Further investigation revealed that Sonu and her accomplice Navneet had information about the employee’s movements and knew that he would be delivering gold in Chandni Chowk from his workshop in Mundka. They waited for him on September 22, anticipating the gold delivery.
After the robbery, the accused left Delhi and took refuge in Jalandhar. All five suspects were arrested in Jalandhar, and 17 gold biscuits weighing 2kg were recovered from their possession.
