NEW DELHI: CM Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said his government will soon ensure round-the-clock supply of water in every part of the capital.
Addressing a public meeting in Bijwasan assembly constituency in southwest Delhi, Kejriwal said providing free water and electricity were the two basic promises he had made to the residents of Delhi and he had succeeded in that to a large extent.
“Delhi and Punjab (where Aam Aadmi Party has governments) are the only two states in the country where electricity is free. This is magic, isn’t it? God has blessed me with special power. Only Kejriwal can provide free electricity,” he said, adding “It will take some time, but the entire city will have 24×7 water supply too”.
After inaugurating 995 street-roads in Mahipalpur area of Bijwasan constituency, Kejriwal said there were 40 unauthorised colonies in the area and 33 had already been provided with roads, sewer, and water pipelines.
With Lok Sabha elections only a few months away, Kejriwal is currently going to various unauthorised colonies spread across the city inaugurating road, water, and sewer projects.
The AAP national convener, however, said he had not come to Mahipalpur seeking votes. “I am not a politician. I am an ordinary person. I have come here to serve. I do not indulge in dirty politics. I am an engineer and know how to work,” Kejriwal said, adding that people living in unauthorised colonies had always been the victims of politics and it was the AAP government that transformed these localities with massive development in the last few years.
The three-time chief minister said he and his colleagues in AAP had joined politics with a dream of making India the number one nation in the world. “India will become number one country in the world when good education and health services are provided to the people,” he said.
Listing other achievements of his government, Kejriwal said Delhi had more closed-circuit television cameras than any other the foreign city such as New York, London, or Paris. “What other parties could not do in 70 years; we did in just nine years. Delhi government is now in profit despite providing free education, healthcare, and electricity. All these things have become possible because you have an honest government in Delhi,” the chief minister said.
He also referred to the recent amendments to the Government of NCT of Delhi Act and said the Centre had taken away several powers from Delhi government. “But no development work will stop despite these obstructions,” Kejriwal said.
