20 year old student alleges harassment by off-duty pilot on Bengaluru-Pune flight

BENGALURU: A 20-year-old college student has alleged that she was harassed by an off-duty pilot on an Akasa Air flight from Bengaluru to Pune and her complaint to the flight attendant and the airline failed to elicit any action. The flyer alleged that the pilot forced her into switching seats and moving close to him and offered her the ‘alcoholic drink’ he was consuming.
Akasa Air said it investigated the matter in detail but the probe hit a roadblock as the woman was not available despite attempts to reach her after the alleged harassment on October 1. The woman, however, told TOI on Monday evening that the airline had responded to her social media post and she had narrated the encounter again. Akasa Air had regretted her ordeal but none from the airline reached out to her later, she added.
Earlier on Sunday, the woman, while speaking over the phone from Pune – said she was returning home on flight Q to Bengaluru. “I was on seat number 32C towards the rear of the aircraft and a man in his mid-30s began speaking to me after offering to help place my luggage in the cabin above. He said he was an off-duty Akasa Air pilot and I could spot that he was wearing the airline ID card,” she said. She also claimed that the pilot later sent word through a crew member and asked her to come to the backside of the plane.
