BHIWANDI: Two men on a motorcycle suffered serious injuries after two masked accused on a bike fired at them near the Padgha area in Thane district on Friday evening. Police said the reason behind the firing is still to be known. After committing the crime, the accused fled on foot, leaving their bike behind.
The victims, both residents of Chandansar Idgah Maidan in Virar (East), were headed towards Nashik when the crime took place.
The injured, identified as Firoz Shaikh (27) and Azim Sayyed (30), are undergoing treatment at Sion Hospital. Police said the victims are good friends.
The incident took place at Vajreshwari Ambadi Wasim Road around 9:30pm on Friday. Padgha police said the accused on a red bike fired six rounds, out of which three bullets hit the victims. The accused then fled.
The locals who witnessed the crime informed the police who rushed to the spot and took the injured to a nearby hospital, from where they were later shifted to Sion Hospital.
Shaikh got shot in the neck while Sayyed was hit by two bullets in his stomach and leg.
An attempt-to-murder case has been registered against unidentified persons and four separate teams have been formed to crack the case, including one from the crime branch that is checking the CCTV footage of the roads to trace the accused.
Prashant Dhole, deputy superintendent of police, Thane rural, said, “The primary probe shows the injured were headed towards Nashik from Virar when two unidentified persons gave them a chase on a bike and fired at them. The injured are still unconscious. When they are in a condition to speak, we will find out who might be behind the firing and the motive. Meanwhile, our team is also probing the case to find the accused and the reason behind the attempt to kill.”
