THANE: In separate incidents in Thane district, two men were arrested, and a minor was detained for the alleged possession and transportation of beef valued at Rs 1.67 lakh.
On Friday at around 5 am, authorities apprehended some individuals unloading beef from a tempo at MHADA colony in Bhiwandi town.
The police confiscated 200kg of meat, valued at Rs 1.2 lakh, from the tempo, and the driver, Mohammad Avesh Karimullah Ansari (26), was subsequently arrested. An official reported that an offense has been registered with the Nizampura police station in Bhiwandi division.
Similarly, on Friday morning, the police intercepted a two-wheeler in the Kacheripada area, apprehending a meat shop owner and a minor boy who were transporting 75kg of beef.
Juned Kallu Qureshi (19) was arrested for possessing beef worth Rs 47,000, while the minor was detained. A case has been registered against them at the Shanti Nagar police station, according to the official.
