NEW DELHI: Two persons have been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of a 43-year-old man in the Alipur area of north Delhi, police said on Saturday.
The arrested suspects are identified as Mohammad Irshad (29) and Dinesh Kumar (38), both hailing from Bihar.
According to the police, Irshad had rented a pan shop from the victim. It is alleged that Irshad carried out the killing to evade paying rent for the shop any longer.
The incident came to light on September 9 when a body was discovered in a drain near Mukhmelpur Pulia. The deceased, identified as Ajay Kumar, was a resident of Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh. The police investigation revealed that the victim had sustained abrasions on his face, and a scarf was wrapped around his neck.
With the assistance of CCTV footage, law enforcement was able to identify the two suspects, who were subsequently apprehended. Deputy commissioner of police (Outer North) Ravi Kumar Singh provided details of the case.
According to the accused, the victim had leased a pan shop at the New Delhi railway station to Irshad for a daily rent of Rs 300.
The victim insisted on collecting the rent on a daily basis, which reportedly infuriated Irshad. Both suspects were known to consume alcohol with the victim. On the night of September 8, taking advantage of the victim’s intoxicated state, they allegedly killed him and disposed of his body.
