BHUBANESWAR: A 14-year-old boy — son of a businessman — was murdered after being kidnapped in by-poll bound Jharsuguda in Odisha, police said on Wednesday.
Jharsuguda superintendent of police Smit Parmar said though the family had got ransom calls hours after the kidnap on Monday night, other angles are also being probed since the boy was killed much before the deadline to pay money.
The killers made calls after the murder as well, which may be to mislead the police and family, he said.
Police arrested two persons, one of them an acquaintance of the deceased.
The men offered the boy a bike ride and abducted him.
Since he knew one of them, he didn’t suspect any foul play.
Police found the charred body of the boy on a river side in Bargarh district, around 100 km away from the boy’s residence in Jharsuguda, on Tuesday.
The crime happened two months after then minister and local MLA Naba Das was shot dead by a policeman in Jharsuguda district on January 29,
The Election Commission of India on Wednesday announced that a by-election for Jharsuguda will be held on May 10, simultaneously with the Karnataka assembly election.
