12-hr jam as container truck overturns on Nashik h’way | Thane News



BHIWANDI: A container truck loaded with iron angle overturned on the Mumbai-Nashik highway late on Tuesday night, injuring two persons and damaging six vehicles. The accident resulted in a 20-km-long traffic and affected vehicular movement for over 12 hours.
The Bhiwandi rural police said the container truck carrying angles was coming from Nashik when it suddenly overturned on the highway at Yevai chowck in Bhiwandi taluka at 11.30pm. As angles fell off the truck, they hit six vehicles, including a dumper truck and an ST bus, damaging them.
The drivers of the container and dumper trucks, who were trapped in their vehicles, had be pulled out by police. Both suffered minor injuries and were sent to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Police initially relied on hydraulic machine to remove iron angles and vehicles from the highway but had to eventually deploy JCB machine. The stretch was cleared around 6am, but vehicular traffic on both lanes of the highway returned to normalcy only around 12.30pm on Wednesday.
“Two persons got injured in the mishap, but fortuantely both are safe. Police team worked the whole night to clear the highway of iron angles and damaged vehicles,” said Ravindra Bayes, senior police inspector of Bhiwandi taluka police station. The accident hit office-goers who commute from Nashik to Mumbai and also commuters who use the highway to heads towards Mumbai from Bhiwandi, Kalyan and Kasara.
