Mumbai: A senior citizen couple were arrested by Gorai police at midnight on Friday for allegedly stabbing a shopowner to death over a dispute over a shop space at Golden Pagoda in the Gorai police station area. The accused, 65-year-old Rolan Miranda and his wife, Lizbert, were booked for murder and remanded in police custody.The victim, Dashrath Chavan, 37, was attacked by the couple. Locals who witnessed the assault called police and Chavan was rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries before admission.Zonal DCP Sandeep Jadhav said “The murder has occurred in the Gorai Police Station area, where the victim was attacked with a sharp weapon. The attack stemmed from a dispute over a shop space at Golden Pagoda.”Locals said the accused had frequently fought with Chavan over the shop space. They added that the matter escalated on Friday night when the couple charged at him with a knife.“The couple attacked Chavan with a sharp weapon which involved stabs to the neck and chest. Chavan succumbed due to the multiple deep injuries,” said a police officer of the Gorai police station.
